Karen Parker completed the flag to honour Lummi, the oldest whale in the Southern Resident killer whale community. She was born approximately in 1910 and last seen in 2008 making her 98 and a great, great grandmother.

Through the decades Lummi would have bore witness to shootings, numerous capture attempts, man-made contaminants and sound pollution, and the collapse of their food source the salmon.

As the oldest she was most likely a respected member of K pod and was relied upon to help the pod search for food.

As of her disappearance in 2008 she left behind her daughter K11. Grand daughter K13. Great grand calves K20, K25, K27, K34 and a great, great grand calf K38.
